Your support helps to enliven our students, faculty and staff and our UC San Diego community members as we begin the spring quarter and continue to navigate all the obstacles posed by this past year.
Like many of you, when I first arrived at UC San Diego as anundergraduate, I didn’t have a clue as to what I wanted to do with my life after graduation. It wasn’t until my second year, when I took a macroeconomics course to fulfill a Marshall college requirement, that I came to the sudden and wonderful realization that I wanted to pursue a career in finance. This is why UC San Diego is such an important part of our greater community. In addition to our academic excellence and worldchanging contributions to scientific research, our university also allows its students to explore, try newthings and discover who they really are along the way.
To those of you who have long and storied careers of philanthropy, I extend my personal gratitude to you for your generosity. I have supported myself financially since I was 16-years-old, and it was donors such as yourselves who enabled me to attend UC San Diego in the first place. Donors like you helped me discover what I wanted for my future and succeed after I graduated. To those of you who are receiving this message of thanks after one of your very first gifts to the university, I offer my congratulations. I was not very engaged with our mutual alma mater immediately following graduation, and that is something I regret. Now, in my tenure as an alumni board member, I have discovered that UC San Diego will always be here for me. I am thrilled to be engaged and giving to vital student support and success funds—causes that ensure the next generation of alumni will graduate and continue the critical cycle of support we are participating in now.
With immense gratitude and best wishes,
